Story of a rabbit

It’s as easy as pie to forget what you’ve seen at the festival but if you saw this then you’ll be chatting about it all year.

Dark and deep, the subject matter is death-with-insight, humour, and Taoist philosophy thrown into the mix.

Hugh Hughes is a sweetie. Making cups of tea, handing out badges and handshakes at the end he charmingly presents two parallel stories of loss - a rabbit and his father.

Props include sawdust, action men, and boxes along with trippy visuals and music a la his sidekick Aled, making this quirky piece of poignant theatre impressively unique!

» Stephen Grant

Stephen GrantThis, Stephen Grant’s latest one-man show, deals with what from the outset seems like the dubious accolade of coming second. The show starts with the former computer-programmer playing on his notoriety as one of the best MCs in the business, by having a computer do his side-splitting, pick-on-an-audience-member routine which, let’s be honest, is what many of us go to the Krater Club for.

The subsequent dialogue played out on screens takes a while to get going and if there’s one criticism it would be that: the technological side is not always as smooth and effective as it could be. But it’s the incisive, intelligent gags and the downright honesty of the bloke (dealing with a break-up) that wins you over and yes Stephen second definitely is best.

Adem, Komedia 24th May

Following the release of his third solo album “Takes” Adem returns with a new set up. Performing to a relaxed audience seated comfortably on the floor, the seven piece band set out to seduce us with all manner of strings, shakes and harmonies, the trademark accordian and a ukelele. Refreshingly, as the name suggests, Adem gives a different perspective on each of the covers he has chosen, taking them apart and making them very much his own. Definately one to catch again.

Gina Yashere ‘Skinny Bitch’
Gina Yashere is hot-to-trot and 3 dress sizes skinnier in her UK tour. You find out how she did it in colonic detail! Looking and sounding fantastic, her seamless wit and quick-smart observations never cease to impress. Definitely the freshest comedy I have seen in the festival - she’s as easy to watch as having a laugh and a joke with an old friend. And LA certainly hasn’t gone to her head; she still loves her UK audience. Come home Gina all is forgiven! America doesn’t know how lucky they are.
