Victoria Nangle finds it hot in the city and is looking forward to the new breed of comedy festivals this summer
To quote the legendary Cole Porter: “It’s too darn hot!” Once you’ve finished sweltering in the office all day the last thing any of us want to do is go on down to a pokey little basement club, large arena venue or medium-sized theatre to endure more of the stuffiness. Whether you’re on or off the stage, the problem is the same for us all.
“Catching more punchlines flying than you’d find out on an evening with Groucho Marx and Joan Rivers”

A youth project has appealed for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and unsure volunteers aged 16 to 25 to help their peers get into voluntary work. Young People’s Voice, the young branch of local charity Allsorts, is setting up a group to oversee voluntary projects in Brighton and Hove. It will meet about once a month for one or two hours to develop volunteering opportunities, events and promotion.
The city council hoisted the rainbow flag to celebrate 30 years since it was first used. The International symbol of solidarity with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people was flown from Hove Town Hall and the council’s headquarters at King’s House, Grand Avenue, Hove last Wednesday, 25 June.
