» The right diet

Sandra Omo points out that there’s more to dieting than simply shedding pounds

Sandra OmoI, like every other model, have become a victim of the word ‘diet’. It has become a word we dare not use outside our clique, otherwise the stare we get is the type that can cause the ground to open and swallow us.

Why? Because this word has become such a misunderstood cliché, so that when a model, especially a slim person, says he/she is on a diet, the first thought that runs through people’s minds is usually cynical. Then they begin to ask questions like: “What’s wrong with you?”, “Are you serious or joking?”, “What on earth do you need to diet for?”, “Can’t you see you are skinny already?”, etc. Yeah all these may be true but has it ever occurred to anyone that they are exactly the reasons why that person should be on a diet?

“As long as you eat food, you are on a diet. The question is, are you on a good or bad diet?”

» Dani’s diary

Dani finds that watching tennis has a surprisingly therapeutic effect on the anxious mind of a troubled girl…

I haven’t been feeling great recently. I am having quite a few panic attacks, and when I am not feeling like that I am absolutely exhausted.

I am so bored of spending all day pretending that I feel fine that cracks are starting to appear in my façade. But it’s okay because I bought myself a sun lounger and I don’t have much of a garden!

“I want Andy Murray to win because if my kitten was a person he would look like Murray”

I had thought of something to say in this space earlier today, but that idea disappeared along with a small amount of sanity.

» Lady midnight

Katie is getting drawn into a night-time cult via an addiction to YouTube

I am just going to watch just one last YouTube video of Chris Fountain in Dancing on Ice, and then I’ll go to sleep.

Lady midnight

‘Time Warp‘ it is. “It’s astounding, time is fleeting/madness takes its toll.“

Chris curves his body into a ‘Time Warp‘ boogie, his shiny polyester shirt glinting as he shimmys his hips across the frozen lake.

“Johnny Depp’s saying he met him once, as he smoked a roll-up from his kitchen window”

As my watch glides towards 4am he lifts his partner off the ice, her legs split open, his head between them. I would love to meet that boy.

» Review: Pentangle

PentangleFor a band whose original line-up split in 1973, Pentangle show remarkable resilience. I mean drummer Terry Cox has been running a restaurant in the Balearics for the last 20 years – and yet here they are still one of English folk’s finest proponents.

At the start of tonight’s Dome show, Jacqui McShee’s fluted vocals seemed muddy as if the Royal Festival Hall and Cardiff gigs have taken their toll. Fortunately not and the vocal challenge of 27-verse standards are taken in her increasingly, assured stride.

With Bert Jansch and John Renbourn, as the ablest acoustic accompaniment you’re ever likely to see and Danny Thompson’s virtuoso double bass, no wonder the hubbub surrounding this tour has brought everyone from Madonna’s producer to Devendra Banhart out of the woodwork.

Latest TV

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
