Travelling troupe Circus Oz bring their uniquely Antipodean act to Brighton Dome this month

Circus OzThis September don’t be surprised if you see acrobats dressed as kangaroos and other odd characters taking over Brighton Dome, because Australia’s premier circus ensemble, Circus Oz, is in town with a brand-new high-energy show.

The Circus Oz party planners have been in full swing scouring Australia for the best trapeze artists, contortionists, hoop divers, jugglers, hula hoopers, in-line skaters and all round daredevil acrobats. » Gravetye Manor

Andrew Kay heads towards East Grinstead for an epic lunch at Gravetye Manor

» Three cheers for Brighton funny girl Zoe Lyons

It’s celebcity with Jo Brooks

Zoe LyonsBrighton comedian Zoe Lyons scooped a comedy award from TV channel Dave with a dig at troubled singer Amy Winehouse. Zoe’s joke has been officially declared the funniest joke of the Edinburgh Fringe.

Her winning one-liner was, “I can’t believe Amy Winehouse self-harms. She’s so irritating she must be able to find someone to do it for her.”

The 33-year-old, from Brighton, made the joke in her show, Mangled Mantra of the Messed-up Modern Mind. She scooped the prize in the inaugural comedy awards from the TV channel which bills itself ‘the home of witty banter’. Zoe said after receiving the award “I am absolutely delighted to have won the award. I know self-harming is not funny but it’s just a joke, so I’m not going to beat myself up about it.”

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
