» Iraq: A Process of Resistance

What is it good for?

Iraq: A Process of Resistance is an inspiring documentation of visual protest against the invasion of Iraq and the obliteration of civilian life from 2002-08. Using media images re-contextualised through the processes of art, the show offers an alternative view of the construction of war.

Peter Kennard and Cat Picton Phillipps began their collaborative work as a means to express their revulsion at the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq, and their work can be used as a resource by anyone protesting against the war, including magazines and newspapers.

This is a Brighton Photo Biennial exhibition.

Iraq: A Process of Resistance, Ink_d Gallery, North Road, Brighton, until 25 October

» Music reviews: Metallica, Rose Hill Drive, Jeremy Warmsley & more…

This is the first Metallica album I’ve heard in its entirety, curious as to how they have become one of the most successful bands on planet Earth. The album, Death Magnetic, is not surprising, all about death and disaffection. And while they sing about it, they might just be thinking about their immense and jealously protected wealth. One of life’s abominations, this record surely deserves the quicksands of obliteration. AVOID!

If there was any musical justice left in the world then Rose Hill Drive would be enjoying something of the success of the aforementioned ‘band’. The brothers Sproule are a no-nonsense heads-down rock band, their melodic outpourings influenced by Nirvana, Hendrix and Southern rock.
Rose Hill Drive
They’ve come up organically and from the grassroots, and their new album Moon is the New Earth is packed with filthy rock grooves and riffs from beginning to end.

Underground sensations Bromheads Jacket continue to evade the radar of anointed indie respectability with the follow-up to their debut album Dits From the Commuter belt. This time around they’ve discovered the dirty scuzz of early Iggy and the Stooges, and added that to their unfeasibly large organ sounds and general psycho-garage garbage. Topped off with silly, infantile lyrics, they are really a quite awful, dumb-ass band.

Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur talks to Latest 7 about his new film Jar City

Jar City

It’s taken a couple of years for Jar City to reach the international stage. Is it strange to be talking about a film so long after the event?
You have to wind back and get into it, and remember – but you also get a wider perspective, which is good. You go a little bit away from it, and see it from a distance. I’ve not watched it for a while but I remember it, it’s there. It has a little shelf in my brain.

» Katie price talks plastic surgery

Katie Price gives the lowdown on her recent surgery and the Naked Chef’s been a busy boy

Katie Price

Our loveable Katie Price has spoken for the first time publicly about her latest trip to Los Angeles to have a new wave of plastic surgery. The trip saw Katie have her fifth boob job, lip injections, new dental work plus a bit of botox for good measure.

However, all the procedures didn’t go exactly to plan as the glamour girl stayed in hospital for 13 days instead of the routine five. In a recent interview Katie said: “I was getting the veneers on the back of my teeth finished on this trip. As soon as I landed I went straight to the dentist. I woke up the next day and went to have my boobs done and was under for five hours.

“Afterwards I was in a bit of state and the people at the clinic kept waking me and giving me injections of painkillers and sedatives. I was trying to talk to them to tell them my arm felt paralysed, but apparently I was just slumped over and couldn’t talk.”

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
