Alison Swann is wanting to swap places with the polar bears: they’d like the cold

I have just spent five days in Munich, sightseeing in temperatures that would have made a polar bear feel quite at home. I am not a polar bear, and the irony of said bears’ habitat disappearing on a daily basis as our world becomes ever more frostbitten and cold has not been lost on me.

» Seann’s World: Perchance to dream

Comedian Seann Walsh loves his sleep, so the real world really isn’t for him

I woke up at three in the afternoon today. I then underwent my daily waking ritual of going back to sleep for an hour. After that I was quite safely awake, and had probably drained away most of the sleep I had in me, but I thought it best to lie down for half an hour, just to be sure.

It was during this half-hour that I began to query my compatibility with what is commonly known as The Real World.

Seann Walsh is keeping away from the gym and is happy on his own treadmill

I’ve never been inside a gym. The inside of a gym, to me, is one of those things I have only seen in films or on television, like prison, New York or up Sharon Stone’s skirt.

Aspirational television and film depicts the gym matter-of-factly as a sort of retreat, full of mirrors and shiny floors, where young, anatomically perfect urban professionals go to replenish themselves and relinquish the terrible stress of having a well-paid job and a rich social life.

» Review of the week: Afterspark, with the LMB All Stars

In these X Factor days, it can be hard for a truly original artist, however compelling, to find a gap in the static. The fact that Afterspark sold out of CDs to an audience otherwise entirely unfamiliar with the material spoke volumes. Featuring Cate Ferris’s distinctive voice, which is as English as a West Country cottage, material ranged from the anthemic ‘Low Flying Airplanes’ to truly moving pieces like ‘Little Glow’ and ‘Flying’.
When Cate Ferris sings that she left her soul in a another time zone (‘Treat it gently, please… A constant 36 degrees’) you had better believe it. This was genuine poetry set to outstanding music. Exceptional stuff.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
