The Land Girls

Only a couple of weeks left to see this major exhibition that focuses on the often overlooked but vital contribution of the Women’s Land Army to the war effort on the home front, and the role of Sussex women drafted in to provide agricultural labour while male farm workers were drafted into the armed services.
The Land Girls: Cinderellas of the Soil, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery,
01273 290900. Until 14 March

Cambodia Children’s Art Exhibition

The Cambodian Children’s Paintings Project works with underprivileged children in Sihanoukville, Cambodia to develop their artistic skills. BMC Gallery is host to a fundraising event on behalf of the project, including an auction of some of the work.
Cambodian Children’s Art Fundraising Event, Brighton Media Centre, 01273 201100, www.letuscreatecambodia.org. 6 March, 7-9pm.

Gilly McFadden

Employing traditional silkscreen methods to create striking and evocative images of wild plants, Gilly McFadden finds her inspiration in long walks through the lanes and downland of Sussex, observing the amazing structures in hedgerows and waysides. She then uses the silkscreen process to deconstruct the form, hoping to create a new understanding
of these plants and their innate beauty.
Gilly McFadden, Pelham House, Lewes, 01273 488600. Until 7 April

Cream II

Following on from the success of last year’s inaugural showcase of some of the best BA photography graduates from 2008, Cream II: A Showcase of Graduate Photography Talent features some of the most interesting and diverse photographic graduates to emerge from 2009, from Westminster, Glasgow, Derby and Newport.
Cream II, Crane Kalman, Kensington Gardens, 01273 697096. Until 4 April

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk

» Artists Open Houses

AOH Special: It’s Festival time in Brighton & Hove, which means the Artists Open Houses have opened their doors for another year! Maps of all the trails can be picked up across the city. We love nothing better than browsing and buying arts and crafts, and there is so much going on throughout May that we’ve made it easier by bringing the Artists Open Houses to you! We have 11 special programmes, featuring artists in their own houses. So here’s your chance to go ‘through the keyhole’ so to speak as we visit the artists in their own environment.
