A Working Coalition

Taking their cue from the current political landscape, this exhibition brings together three artists (Lee Cheneler, Gavin Frankcom and Jennifer Sinclair) who all see their creative practice as open to influence and discussion. Painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and video installations are all on show here.

A Working Coalition, Brighton Media Centre Gallery, 15-17 Middle Street, 01273 201100. 19-22 August

Dominic Bradnum

Emblazoned with lit-up slogans and abstract neon forms in saturated colours, Dominic Bradnum’s ‘I Think Of You And I Smile’ exhibition is primarily concerned with capturing the flickering, incandescent qualities of neon lights.

Dominic Bradnum: I Think Of You And I Smile, Blanch House, 17 Atlingworth Street, 01273 603504. Until 30 September

From Sickert to Gertler

Exhibition celebrating the lives of Bobby and Natalie Bevan (pictured left) and the works that hung on the walls of their home, Boxted House. This became a gathering place for artists after World War II including John Nash and Cedric Morris. Other artists on show include Charles Ginner and John Armstrong.

From Sickert to Gertler: British Modern Art from Boxted House, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, 01273 290900. Until 12 September

Launch Me

For the last 10 years many locals have seen their photos appear in the Brighton & Hove Calender. Why not email the folk upstairs at Snoopers Paradise with a snap or two, or send a link to your portfolio/Flickr page? You might find your work on public display at the current ‘Launch Me’ exhibition, which runs until 30 September, before possible calendar inclusion for 2011.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk

» Artists Open Houses

AOH Special: It’s Festival time in Brighton & Hove, which means the Artists Open Houses have opened their doors for another year! Maps of all the trails can be picked up across the city. We love nothing better than browsing and buying arts and crafts, and there is so much going on throughout May that we’ve made it easier by bringing the Artists Open Houses to you! We have 11 special programmes, featuring artists in their own houses. So here’s your chance to go ‘through the keyhole’ so to speak as we visit the artists in their own environment.
