» News: Appeal for film funding

News: July 26th, 2011

A disabled man from Worthing is appealing for funding to help complete a film about his muscle wasting condition.

Jon Hastie, 30, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when he was three and needs round the clock care.

Duchenne is a progressive, muscular wasting disease and Jon has already lived longer then expected.

Despite his condition Jon completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Politics and International Relations, a Masters in Environmental Studies and a Ph.D in Government.

He said: “I wanted my film to document my meeting with fellow people with Duchenne whilst highlighting the positive angle of their lives.”

Production of A Life Worth Living began in 2010 but it is only half complete and he needs to raise a further £50,000 to finish the project.

The inspiration for the film came when Jon saw Darius Goes West: The Roll of his Life, a film about Darius Weems, who also has Duchenne, journey 7,000 miles across America.

He is still hopeful of completing the film in time for the industry awards season in September as he recently completed a road trip around the UK and will soon be returning to Amsterdam to meet his final interviewee.

Each month, dating coach Tammy James answers your relationship questions

My boyfriend and I have been dating for two years and have a house together. I’m keen to start a family but he says he’s not ready. What should I do?

Sadly, us women have to make our minds up about having children before nature decides we can’t. For men, they can take their time. Think back to when you got together and what your boyfriend’s view on children was then. If he was clear he wanted children then he could genuinely need more time. Lots of men don’t like to think of having kids until they feel they are in a stable relationship and can financially support their child. If your boyfriend has been pretty evasive about the subject of children from the start it’s unlikely you’ll be able to change him and giving him more time will make no difference. It’s time for a frank discussion with him: what does he want and when? If he can’t say, then you need to think about how important this is to you.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
