Winter skin care

The new Origins Youthtopia Lift collection is out 26 December exclusively at John Lewis, Arnotts and Voisins so start saving those Christmas pennies now! Youthtopia Firming Cream (£45) is the perfect skin rescue – perfect for prepping the skin ready for the new year. With orange blossom, cardamom seed and geranium essential oils and wonderful, natural ingredients, this is the perfect indulgent treat for smoother, younger looking skin. The science behind it: new findings show that age, stress, fatigue and the loss of hyaluronic acid can cause skin to lose its volume and contours. The key ingredient here is Commiphora Mukul – which is extracted from the root of a tree indigenous to India. It has been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for over 3,000 years and helps volumise and re-densify the skin’s appearance. Gentle, nourishing and revitalising without being greasy and gloopy!

Dating coach Tammy James answers your relationship questions

My friend has recently split up with her boyfriend and now she wants us to go out every weekend like we did when we were both single. The problem is, I’m in a fairly new relationship. What do I do?

When a relationship ends, it’s common to want to pick up the social life you had before and go places where you might meet a new partner. Your friend isn’t wrong in expecting you to do this but she needs to understand that your circumstances have changed. The key to this is balance; you should be there to support your friend but you can’t be her only means of support. Ultimately your friend is responsible for making her social life what she needs it to be, therefore you mustn’t feel guilty about not being able to see her every weekend. In the initial stages of a break up you should be there to offer tea and sympathy and check in with her to make sure she’s OK. In terms of your weekends, you should consider how frequently you can go out with her and still see your new boyfriend. Don’t feel bad about saying no – it’s easy to over commit in an effort to please everyone, but you have to accept that you can’t always do that. Ultimately, this is a great opportunity for your friend to go out and meet new friends that are in a similar situation to her and want to socialise more frequently. Check out brightonsocialising.co.uk and soulmateevents.com who both offer opportunities to socialise.

» News: Floral Clock gets festive

News: November 29th, 2011

Christmas officially starts in Hove on 1 December with the official ‘switch on’ of the lights on the floral clock tree.

This year’s event sees Brighton & Hove Mayor Councillor Anne Meadows and Environment Councillor Pete West flicking the switch to light up the Christmas tree.

The event will start at 3.30pm at St John the Baptist Church, where children from St Peter’s Community and Infant School in Portslade will be singing Christmas carols.

The group will then move to Palmeira Square where City Mayor, Councillor Anne Meadows, will be switching on the Christmas tree lights at 4.15pm.

Members of the City in Bloom campaign will be joining the children for the celebrations and are hoping lots of local residents will help to swell the crowds.

Councillor West said: “This is a lovely traditional event in the run up to Christmas and we hope lots of people will join us to see the lights, enjoy the children’s singing and get into the festive spirit.”

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
