The Jive Monkey is Brighton’s newest & most unique theatre & bar venue situated right in the heart of the city

Tucked discreetly away at 5 Steine Street, The Jive Monkey is the brainchild of photographer and producer Sam Eddison and Brighton actress Laura Nixon. Laura is famed for her uncannily accurate onstage portrayal of Marilyn Monroe as seen in the hit show Alive & Swinging With Marilyn Monroe which has been wowing audiences at Brighton’s Komedia.

Sam and Laura’s vision of an intimate, adaptable performance space and laid back bar has come to life in this venue which is set to be one of the city’s most loved venues.

Two floors of monkey magic are on offer. A luxurious ground floor bar with comfortable sofa seating plus an upper floor featuring an intimate and multi-functional theatre space with tables, chairs and bar, all fully air conditioned as well as state of the art sound and lighting.

The upper theatre lends itself to a much more personal entertainment experience and many renowned performers and jazz musicians are now lining up to take their place on a stage that allows them to truly connect with their audience.

Back to black

We’re still saddened by the untimely death of singing legend Amy Winehouse this year, but her legacy has touched Brighton in a multitude of ways. Mitch Winehouse, the singer’s beloved father, launched the Amy Winehouse Foundation following her passing and has since pledged £10,000 to Brighton’s children’s charity Chestnut Tree House. That’s not all though, after being blown away by a visit to the hospice, Mitch decided he would perform in honour of them for their fourth annual Snowball Spectacular Fundraising Ball. Mitch’s love of music was a great influence on Amy in her younger years and continued to play out within all of her work. Guests can expect some old time favourites and perhaps maybe a tribute to his remarkable daughter – it promises to be a special night all round. The Snowman Spectacular Ball takes place on Saturday 3 December at the Hilton Brighton Metropole but sadly tickets are already sold out!

William Tells: November 29th, 2011

Will Harris raises a few eyebrows

“I had my eyebrows threaded once,”says M. “It hurt like hell and I looked permanently startled.” It is just another Friday evening at M’s, which – let’s face it – is ground zero for all the best material. ‘What hurt like hell?’ asks C, wandering into the lounge. “Threading,” says M. “The first few days I looked like David Gest, but it was totally worth it.’

“Don’t be so ridiculous!’ C strides over to the mirror above the fireplace. “Why would you want to mess around with your eyebrows? I can’t think of anything more narcissistic…”

“––– does it,’ interrupts M.

“––– has peck implants.” I shake my head at him. “Very bad example.”

Latest TV

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
