» Review: My Morning Jacket

Reviews: November 9th, 2011

For two hours, My Morning Jacket treated the audience at the De La Warr to groove-soaked tunes which never quite dissolved into the merely anthemic, sporting tonal dynamics which welded saxophone, pedal steel and vocal trickery with a traditional rock set-up. If at points the instrumentals veered into self-indulgence, and in-jokes estranged the casual observer, the encore saw the band produce a Flying V and Gold Top Les Paul to demonstrate the effectiveness of a few good chords played loud. That’s rock and roll.

» Review: Los Campesinos!

Reviews: November 9th, 2011

If you’re trying to heckle a band affectionately, shouting that you’re planning to have sex with the keyboard player is never going to go down very well with the lead singer, especially when she’s his sister. Whether it was irritation with the laddish sections of the crowd, or that the thoughtful songs from forthcoming album ‘Hello Sadness’ were falling flat on ears waiting for the sugar rush of their early singles, indiepop septet Los Campesinos! seemed a little disengaged tonight. Only during encore ‘Sweet Dreams, Sweet Cheeks’ did the group finally relax and start dancing too.

» Review: Steve-O: The Entirely Too Much Information Tour

Reviews: November 9th, 2011

The name of Steve-O’s show is no understatement. The Jackass star, and reformed addict, certainly tried to prove he’s not just about covering himself in excrement and showing off in front of a camera. In an intimate environment with a crowd full of banter, he shared some extremely graphic showbiz stories. The evening very much appealed to its male-orientated audience as he asked what everyone’s favourite porn site was, proceeded with details of his own nether regions, strippers, foursomes, and celebrity sex scandals – including Mini Me’s own video. Ending the show with a huge knife balanced on his nose, and setting his hair on fire, Steve-O definitely is the goofy character from his MTV shows. Silly stunts aside, which is what we love him for, the boyish level of humour didn’t quite do it for this woman in her mid twenties.

Latest 7 looks at the events taking place in aid of local and national charities

There’s no better way to spread festive cheer than by supporting charities in local events. If the idea of running a marathon is something you’ve always wanted to do but you are daunted by the prospect, choose to make 2012 your year (just as the Olympics craze sweeps the UK!). Whether you choose to walk or run, charity fundraisers can be great experiences to share with friends and family. And don’t forget there are other ways to show your support for charities too – stewarding on the day for example.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
