Clare Brown from Revitalise on the12-week weight loss programme that gets results

Carrying excess weight is not only an image issue – it carries with it serious health implications. Obesity from middle age reduces life expectancy by almost a decade, which is comparable to smoking 20 cigarettes a day. Read the rest of this article »

Andrew Kay's food & drink: May 10th, 2010

Andrew Kay on pea and ham and Sussex lamb at The Snowdrop Inn in Lewes

The most frequent question I get asked is: where is the best Sunday lunch in Brighton? I seldom hesitate: at home. I’m not boasting – I do a pretty mean roast if I do say so myself. No, what I mean is, on the whole, Sunday lunch is a meal best enjoyed around the table with family and friends. Of course, for those who ask who are scared of sticking a decent chicken in a roasting dish with a glass of wine and a big lump of butter or olive oil and a few herbs – even just an onion, not even peeled – then my answer is inadequate. » Review: The No 9 Bus To Utopia

Festival & Fringe 2010, Fringe Reviews: May 10th, 2010

Dr David Bramwell has been on an incredible journey, searching the globe for Utopia – or to be more precise, Utopias. This odyssey exploring and embracing communities that vary in attitudes and beliefs – from a dominatrix-led Czech castle to Damanhur in Italy, which has temples bigger than St Paul’s carved into a mountain and claims to have a fully functioning time machine – is truly eye-opening and inspiring. Especially in the setting of Earth Ship, a bus ride away from our picking up point and then a 20 minute walk from where we were dropped off through allotments and eco living. Pushing boundaries physically and intellectually, Dr Bramwell’s tale of anarchists, swamis, hot tubs and an ex-girlfriend may have overrun, but was enthralling from start to finish.

One man was watching the General Election even more closely than most. The Treason Show’s Mark Brailsford talks to Bella Todd

“I suppose the biggest name drop’s got to be Kenneth Branagh,” says Mark Brailsford, leaning back in his chair with mock swagger. “One of our cast members had lunch with him, and he asked her what she was working on. It’s called The Treason Show, she explained, a satirical sketch show mixing songs and sketches and local and national and international news …. And Kenneth Branagh, says, “Oh, I’ve got an idea for you. I’ve always thought, wouldn’t it be nice to rewrite that Katie Melua song ‘Crazy’ all about Bisto. You know, ‘the closest thing to gravy…’” Read the rest of this article »

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
