Andrew Kay gets a piece of the pizza action at Mama Lemon’s in Rottingdean

When the sun hits the sky like a big pizza pie that’s… Well, to be honestwith you, I’m not the biggest fan of pizza. Friends of mine will tell you that I often refer to it as over-priced cheese on toast. Funnily enough, I love cheese on toast. There are, of course, those days when a pizza perfectly fits the bill. Andrew Kay goes to Waves in Hove and finds a whole lot of dosa going on

Regular readers will know of my passion for southern Indian cooking. They will also know that I regularly drive to Tooting or Croydon for a fix. There is something weirdly addictive and distinctly earthy about the subtle but fiery seasoning of this food. It is also, for the main part, vegetarian. Now I know that you all think that I have no time for vegetarians or for vegetarian food. Nothing could be further from the truth. I love vegetarian food and the people who eat it too. I have little time for fussy and faddy eaters, people with ‘allergies’ and ‘intolerances’ and those vegetarians who cleverly allow themselves to eat fish and even chicken breast. They are dainty eaters, the lowest form of eaters who would discard the bulk of a beast just to eat the pretty bits. No, I have no time for them at all. Read the rest of this article »

Andrew Kay joins colleagues for a curry at Nooris in Brighton

I think my days of the late-night curry are well gone. The very idea of eating that amount of rich and spicy food just before staggering to bed is revolting. In fact, I would rather eat earlier and earlier these days, and at home we are usually all done by just after 7pm. That way the food we eat has the time to be digested before we go to bed. It does have a drawback, mind you. If, for some reason, dinner is a light affair then you can end up sneaking cheese and crackers before bed and thus negating the benefits of eating early.

I recently reviewed an Indian restaurant in Croydon, where for under £12 I dined like a king. There are plenty of places down here with cheaper dining options too, some good and some not so. Read the rest of this article »

Andrew Kay sees the Ramsay in full flow at The Priory Grill And Bar in Haywards Heath

It’s not a long drive to Haywards Heath and my spies had told me that a rare beast was prowling up there. None other than Gordon Ramsay on a second Kitchen Nightmares shoot in Sussex this season.

Now, Mr Ramsay has done a stirling job at Love’s here in Brighton so I was keen to see what effect he would have this time. The establishment under scrutiny was The Priory Grill And Bar, a decommissioned nunnery and as such a very fine space indeed, all stained glass, tracery, buttresses, bosses and flying angels. » Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
