Sew In Brighton
In this city of creativity, there is fabulous merit in the unique and the handmade. Great news for all then with the beginning of a new term with Sew In Brighton, offering sewing classes to all levels from stark beginners through to intermediates and improvers. It’s up to you how many classes you sign up for, with a sliding scale of prices encouraging the rather sensible idea of committing to several allowing you to receive guidance from start to finish as you go through creating your garment.
As a beginner all you need are pins and scissors for your first class. Classes run Tuesday nights for beginners and improvers, 7pm–9pm, from £12 each lesson for six lessons; on Thursday morning for beginners and improvers, 10am–12noon, from £50 for four classes; on Thursday evening for improvers and intermediates, 7pm–9.30pm, from £15 per class when you book five or more classes.
The new term starts 13 September. Classes take place at The Sewing Lounge, Hove, and The Painting Pottery Café, Brighton.

A free taster weekend takes place Saturday 24–Sunday 25 September. Call Kat for info on 07958 964 810. www.sewinbrighton.co.uk

Ethical scent: Tous H20
Keep an eye out for eco chic fragrance Tous H20, available in stores now. The refreshing scent will remind you of lazy summer days and is the perfect pick me up for September. Plus, a percentage from every bottle sold is donated to Oxfam, which lets them allocate 15 litres of drinking water (enough water for ten days) to those in need of safe drinking water. The fragrance’s eco credentials don’t end there: the glass bottle is made from 25 per cent recycled material and is 100 per cent recyclable. Components of the fragrance are ‘Ecocert’ certified. With top notes of organic lemon and lavender plus rose, mandarin, jasmine, white amber and cedar, eco chic is now the sweetest smell around.
Tous H20, £26–£46, available from Boots and Debenhams stores.

Win a meal at Manna vegetarian and vegan restaurant
If you’re planning a trip to the capital this summer, then be sure to check out vegetarian restaurant Manna in Primrose Hill.

Always vegetarian, the restaurant has now been fully vegan for over two years. Manna’s owner, Roger Swallow, and his wife Robin’s vegan philosophy stems from California, their primary home. Manna’s menu consists of a broad international fusion of traditional recipes using the freshest, most nutritious, organic and locally sourced products available, including some quirky ones.

“We’ve been serving gourmet vegetarian food for the past 44 years at Manna,” says Roger. “We’ve strived to show that plant-based cuisine, and healthy eating, can mean connoisseur taste and gourmet presentation.”

Latest TV

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
