It was the ‘Perfect Night’ for Peter Andre at Fontwell Racecourse on 2 July as he performed under the summer sky. Julie Coates, of The Lanes Health and Beauty salon, was lucky enough to be there and hailed our local entertainer as “the ultimate showman.”

“This performance was in a different league for Pete,” she enthused. “I have seen him perform brilliantly before, but on Saturday he really was at the top of his game.” No doubt Pete will be keen to recreate the magic during his headline slot at Guilfest later this month.

Peter was joined by X-Factor boy band The Reason 4, and live pop act Paradise Point, whose bass player – Roman Kemp – is said to be a dead-ringer for his famous father Martin. But ultimately the night belonged to our Aussie-born heartthrob. Ending the show with his biggest hit, ‘Mysterious Girl’, Peter sang covers alongside his own work to ensure that the concert was a real crowd pleaser. “He really didn’t disappoint,” concluded Julie. Although a few fans have since expressed regret at the no-show of his famous six-pack; some people are never satisfied!

Elton John in Hove, Peter Andre headlines Guilfest, & celebrity hairdresser Mark Woolley is the top choice

Elton’s song

Last weekend I climbed into my festival jumpsuit of the season and headed down to the Sussex County Cricket Ground in Hove to have a gander at Elton John live. The weather was completely amazing and really made the gig feel like a proper festival – hard to imagine in a cricket club!

Hove was the second night of Elton’s current European tour. The star duly arrived by glamorous helicopter – the posh one with the retracting wheels – at nearby Hove Park. I spoke to one of the people that were looking after him backstage and they informed me that baby Zak was in tow safely in the arms of Elton’s long-term partner David Furnish. Zak was wearing a specially designed tour T-shirt with his name emblazoned on the back.

Once on stage, Elton didn’t disappoint, which is more than I can say for the bar queues which were a ridiculous 45 minute wait! Thank the Lord for local businessman Barry Carden who I spotted having lunch in his pitchside box; Barry saw my plight and passed out a couple of glasses of Pimms for me and my friend Fiona (thanks Bazza, you are a legend).

We made the most of the queue for the bar as it was at least facing the gig and most people sang/swayed along to ‘Rocket Man’ (well done to the bloke who let off rockets from his back garden in Wilbury Road), ‘Saturday Night Is Alright For Fighting’, ‘Crocodile Rock’ and ‘Tiny Dancer’ (my personal fave). Elton was on stage for a mighty two and a half hours, which the crowd completely loved I might add.
After performing an encore of the classic ‘Your Song’ (made even more popular after Ewan McGregor sang it in Moulin Rouge and Ellie Goulding’s recent cover) Elton jumped straight back in his helicopter and flew off. We all waved from – yep you guessed it – the bar queue!

» Celebcity: X Factor Stars get Revenge

This month Revenge welcomes X-Factor finalists and superstars Rachel Adedeji and Rebecca Ferguson. Rachel, who appeared on the show in 2009 alongside Joe McElderry and Olly Murs, is tipped for the same success, becoming the first female of the 2009 competition to release a single. Her club smash ‘Follow The DJ’ is set to be a massive hit and is receiving impressive feedback from critics. Rachel will be performing her debut single at Revenge on 21 January 2011 from 10.30pm.

The following week brings Rebecca Ferguson to the Revenge stage, where she will perform a few of our favourite songs from her X-Factor shows including dance hit ‘Show Me Love’ and my favourite – the classic Eurhythmics track ‘Sweet Dreams’.

Rebecca remained top of the votes throughout last year’s show, never appearing in the bottom two in any week and then beating off stiff competition from One Direction and Cher Lloyd, resulting in
a place in the final with winner, Matt Cardle. See Rebecca’s live set on 28 January 2011, doors open from 10.30pm. For further information visit www.revenge.co.uk

The first ever ‘Brights’, funny man Rob Brydon, Harry Potter’s Mark Williams & Heather Mills’ vegan tuna

Music masterpiece

Last Tuesday saw the first ever Brighton Music Awards tagged as ‘The Brights’. The awards took place at the East Wing of the Brighton Centre and were founded as a ‘not for profit’ initiative to recognise and award the talent, merits and achievements of emerging musicians and artists from across the South East, and to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT).

Award presenters in attendance on the night included The Who frontman and TCT patron Roger Daltrey, ‘War Of The Worlds’ composer Jeff Wayne, Sylvia Anderson (co-creator of Thunderbirds and voice of Lady Penelope), the legendary Arthur Brown (‘Fire’), Carol Harrison (EastEnders) and Dave Pearce (BBC 6 Music).  But the star of the night had to be Led Zeppelin guitar legend Jimmy Page who received the Brighton Music Hall of Fame Award.

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
