Dani describes the true effects of suffering a nervous breakdown

Jennifer Lopez admitted to having a nervous breakdown in 2002. It happened while she was in her trailer filming a movie (one that was undoubtedly rubbish). This is what she said happened:
“I was like: ‘I don’t want to move. I don’t want to talk. I don’t want to do anything.’” Apparently, after she didn’t want to move, her bodyguard took her to a doctor where she refused pills and was told simply to “Go home and go to bed.” She said: “He told me to go back to work on Monday after a weekend of sleeping. So that’s what I did.”

Wow! Jennifer Lopez not only has everything she wants but her nervous breakdown lasted one weekend! Excellent, good for her – what a load of bull. It sounds to me (and I’m no doctor) that she was simply suffering from exhaustion.

Dani on the abundance of phobias and the fear of flying low in the modern age

I have developed a new fear. It only occurs when I am at work. I have no idea why but I am constantly worried that my flies are open. It is a new thing I am worrying about. I have no idea where it came from or why but it is irritating me slightly.

“We all run around, scared of random colours, odd-shaped vegetables and the length of words”

I can’t leave my desk without feeling like I have to check I am all covered. The funny thing is (well it’s not funny at all) is that I bet there is actually a name for that kind of fear. I am sure when my nan was little there were not half as many ‘named’ fears as there are now.

Dani considers getting older and entering the grown-up world

I didn’t believe people when they would tell me that time seems to go quicker the older you get. I believe them now. Because it is true.

“I have started writing a book, but I have the view: ‘Who would ever want to read it?’”

I can’t believe it is already October. The shops are now starting to add Christmas cards to their stock and the nights are drawing in. I am not sad to see the summer go. It has never been my favourite season. The only reason I could feel sad is because it has passed in a blink.

Dani is fed up of not being catered for when clothes shopping on the high street

I am at home with the flu. Doing what people with the flu do best, which is watching daytime TV. During my morning chat show viewing an advert pops on for Marisota. A catalogue just for women who find it difficult to find clothes and shoes to fit. During the advert the narrator claims that: “Half the women we asked claimed they could not find clothes to fit correctly. Half the women we asked said they cannot find shoes wide enough. Sally was one of the women we asked and she said she could not find trousers long enough.” Or something along those lines.

Where did they find these women? How many women did they actually survey? I have a sneaking suspicion they only asked women who may already answer the questions the way they want.

“The only hope I had was the Kate Moss collection at Topshop – which I have tried on and been disappointed with”
