Vintage mania takes over Brighton at the ‘Frock Me! Vintage Fashion Fair’

Britain’s foremost vintage fashion event is the ‘Frock Me! Vintage Fashion Fair’ which descends on us once again on Sunday 6 June. The popular event is held five times a year at the Corn Exchange in Brighton as well as in Chelsea, London.
Stars including Kylie, Yoko Ono, Annie Lennox, Paul Smith, Sophie Dahl and Anna Friel have been spotted rummaging through the rails looking for vintage bargains, and many of the buyers for High Street chains slip in to get inspiration for next season’s catwalk creations.

Students quickly cottoned onto the fact that they could easily buy the original items quite often for less than the modern copies that followed and what started as a local little fair when Frock Me! began a little over six years ago has now become a national movement with spin-off vintage events popping up all over the country.

Frock Me! Vintage Fashion Fair, Corn Exchange, Brighton Dome, Sunday 6 June, 11am–5pm, £4, students with ID: £2, accompanied under 16s free,

Zara Baker finds fair trade doesn’t mean compromising on fashion at Fair

“Fair is for people who care about design but also about where it comes from,” says Emma Hiscock, manager of the clothing and accessory shop, Fair. It’s inspiring to meet a small team so passionate about what they do, and enlightening to realise that all of their products are fair trade. We are increasingly made to think about where our food and drink is sourced from; the same thought should go into choosing our clothing. Ethically sourced products are key at Fair. They have taken the whole world in their hands (under their wing and into their store), helping organisations far and wide by offering fair trade clothes, accessories and gifts from their shop on Brighton’s Queens Road.  Read the rest of this article »

Nautical style is high fashion this summer, so head to Musto for the latest trends

Musto was founded by an Olympic sailor in 1965, and what this clothing brand doesn’t know about sailing isn’t worth knowing. The entire lifestyle range is marine inspired and the company’s maritime heritage influences the clever designs from silhouettes, colours and detailing to technical aspects. As well as the lifestyle clothing, Musto at Brighton stocks the top quality sailing gear it’s famous for.

The lovely people at Musto have come up with a few style tips to help us get perfectly kitted out for the coming season of regattas and general Brighton shore-life fun such as the infamous Paddle Round The Pier. Read the rest of this article »

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
