The Hair and Nail Lounge’s interpretation of this season’s must-have looks

022_LS343_Hair_NailLounge_1.jpg
There is a definite throwback this season to the 1980s and pop – think Chaka Khan and shoulder pads.
022_LS343_Hair_NailLounge_5.jpg
Neons and black are big for hair colouring and blondes are either ice clean and can have violet and pink slices through to create that pop look, or true, with peach and apricot defined in fringes and panels. These trends can also be muted to achieve a soft and yet still-trendy look with versatility being the key.

The Hair and Nail Lounge boasts the most highly qualified staff with members winning many awards in innovative colouring and cutting. Also at the salon is Jo, one of the most talented nail technicians around with many years’ experience and who is on hand for all the lastest in nail care.

Inspiration is taken from street dance and Japanese manga and anime to reflect current trends, and the latest colouring techniques are used to achieve three-dimensional colour.

Warren (colour specialist) coloured the models, while Andrina (style director) styled them, all with help of the highly trained Hair and Nail Lounge art team.

Iggy Pop by Mick Rock
The Rockarchive collection is a music photography agency run along similar lines to Magnum. It was set up by Jill Furmanovsky and features some of music’s greatest names – The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, The Clash, Iggy Pop, Bob Marley – captured by some of photography’s greatest practitioners: David Corio, Bob Gruen, Gerard Mankowitz, Mick Rock and Jill Furmanovsky herself.

This collection of stylistic and iconoclastic rock images features many legendary musicians, captured in intimate moments or on stage, strutting their stuff. The images reveal the vivacious spirit that infuses each new age of music, from the histrionic glittering of glam, the rebellious face of punk to the natural cool of 70s soul. Each hand-signed limited edition print comes embossed, individually numbered and with a certificate of authenticity.

043_LS341_artlistings_1.jpg

The exhibition features a roll call of distinguished rock photographers, many seduced by the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle they captured, and who often formed close relationships with their subjects, sharing and photographing all that is both illicit and exciting about the music scene, and documenting the rise and ruin of many of our modern music icons. These photographers aided in giving life to legends, immortalising them in the moment and cementing their notoriety and fame.

Anthology: The Rockarchive Collection, Crane Kalman Gallery, Kensington Gardens, Brighton, until 11 November. www.rockarchive.com

Top Brighton fashion designer Sarah Arnett unveils her autumn/winter collection

021_LS341_simultane-3.jpg
Award-winning Brighton designer Sarah Arnett has unveiled her new autumn/winter collection at her Brighton store, Simultane. Entitled Dancing Dresses, the collection evokes the true passion and seduction of the tango.

Luxurious silk dresses and separates are embellished with dramatic and intricate prints, creating a sensual and silky silhouette. Rich purples, reds and blues splashed with gold sit alongside blacks overlaid with swirling whites and gilt. The lustrous patterns, laid on silk jerseys, satins and chiffons are intricately cut to flatter at every angle.

Sarah’s collection now sells in over 70 stores worldwide including Harvey Nichols and Fenwick. The label recently won the UK Fashion Export Award for womenswear. Vogue recently commented that ‘dresses are in and Sarah Arnett’s are it’. And Christina Aguilera recently chose to exclusively wear one of Sarah’s dresses for her latest In Style cover shoot.

Exclusive reader offer

To celebrate the new collection, Simultane are offering a complimentary pair of Sarah Arnett silk-printed knickers with the purchase of a dress from the new autumn/winter collection. Simply mention Latest when you buy your dress.

Simultane to change name

Due to the success of Sarah’s collection the name of Sarah’s store – Simultane – will change to Sarah Arnett in October. Managing director, Simon Beales commented: “Now that we are selling in so many stores under Sarah’s name, we thought it was a good time for us to change our Brighton store name. We now only sell our own clothes and so we want people to know that this is our flagship store and home to the complete collection. A label that Brighton can be proud of.”
