» Mother’s Day special: mum in a million

Make this Mother’s Day one for her to treasure with Latest 7′s guide to imaginative, relaxing and tasty treats

Since the 16th century the fourth Sunday of Lent has always been an important fixture in the calender. Initially marking the Bible story of ‘the feeding of the five thousand’, it went on to become the day on which people visited their ‘mother church’, and children were given a day off from the factories to visit their parents. In Surrey, it even became known as ‘Pudding Pie Sunday’! But you don’t have to be religious (or a pie-fanatic, or a grubby factory urchin) to spoil your mum and make a fuss of all the women without whose selflessness, graft and valour in the face of the miracle of childbirth we simply wouldn’t be here. After you’ve put a big asterisk in your diary next to Sunday 14 March, in the following pages you’ll find lots of ideas for making this Mother’s Day extra special. Take a break from the usual card and flowers combo by indulging your mum with a pampering beauty treatment. Why not make a day of it and unwind together with a rejuvenating facial or relaxing massage? Or you could treat your mum to a manicure and pedicure, perhaps even a new hair cut. Once she’s got her new look, all the more reason to wine and dine her in style, or take her out for a slap-up Sunday roast. Remember that the gift of your time and company is one of the most important things you can give on Mother’s Day. Make it personal by taking a common interest and planning a cultural outing together, perhaps browsing a local gallery. You can always bag an affordable work of art as a momento. However you choose to spoil your mum this Mother’s Day, do it in style – this is your chance to say ‘thank you’ and ‘I love you’ to the most deserving woman of all.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
