Explore the unknown and the wonderfully weird at Brighton Science Festival 2010

Brighton Science Festival is here, offering a fortnight of exciting and engaging events all across Brighton and Hove – much of it is free, none of it expensive, all of it amazing. Venues across the city will host events including an exhibition at Jubilee Library; Bright Sparks Family Fun Day at Hove Park Upper School, Philosophy In Pubs (debate) at The Park View Pub, and guest speakers in The Catalyst Club at Latest Music Bar.

Spend an evening in the company of Lord Robert Winston at The Old Market (22 February). Head along to the Sallis Benney Theatre for Big Science Saturday (27 February), with guest speakers comedian Ben Miller and controversial Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee. Preview The Lion’s Face, an opera about Alzheimer’s disease and how it affects its sufferers and carers (27 February). The same day – different venue – see Elementary Carbon, a play about the eponymous element and its significance – from pencils to diamonds, to global warming and the basic stuff of you!

Brighton Science Festival goes out with a bang with some truly inspirational talks and debates on Sunday 28 February in Life, The Universe and Everything.

Richard, Joe and Carrie are the driving force behind Brighton Science Festival 2010. Their jam–packed programme of events promises to make you think twice about all things ’science’.

Youngsters are encouraged to learn through creative play with new company Red Jelly

Children across Brighton and Hove are being inspired by a new, Tony Hart-style initiative. Hove-based business Red Jelly encourages pre-school children – and their parents/carers too – to play with art, explore natural and recycled materials, and make a mess!

Classes are run at various venues across Brighton and Hove throughout the week, including some Saturdays. These classes combine singing, art and craft activities, and story time. Structured around a weekly theme, Red Jelly focuses on the journey children take rather than the outcome – helping develop their creativity, curiosity and confidence.

To find out more about the classes and Red Jelly’s cost-effective loyalty card scheme, visit their website or give them a call.
