Sandra Omo finds herself running through her repertoire with an audience

There are always new trends in the fashion industry. I love it when designers not only come up with new designs, but also with new ideas to launch their designs. This week, a very good designer friend of mine (Anoosh & Morris) invited me to model for their new collection. He caught my attention when he said it was going to be a ‘live fashion shoot’. I assumed ‘live fashion shoot’ meant there were going to be photographers around capturing a runway event. Well, why announce this? Are there not always photographers in fashion shows? After a while, I decided to stop wondering about this and look forward to strutting down the runway instead.

Sandra Omo says dealing with rejection is the key to being a strong model

022_LS345_Model_city_3.jpgHow often does a model have to face
rejection in her career?

The answer is: always! As a model, this is the number one thing you have to be prepared for. The knowledge that you have what the next person does not is the tool that keeps you going.

I cannot count how many castings I have had, but I can count how many jobs I have done. Ask the most successful of models and they will tell you the same. You will get more ‘no’ than ‘yes’, but the good thing is that when you get a ‘yes’, it always boosts your career and proves all the ‘nos’ wrong.

No one handles rejection like models. I can boast of this anywhere. In the industry I have chosen to work in, rejection is part of the business and often it has nothing to do with the model directly. It may be because you do not suit the requirement for the particular job at hand. That is the reason you often find yourself accepted on a later date for another job by the same agency that had turned you down before.

Sandra Omo on the power of an impressive portfolio

I have been very occupied this week with the task of adding new photos to my portfolio. Half way through the week, I realised that I was not just adding new pictures as I had set out to do, but was actually printing a completely new portfolio over again when the one I have is only six months old. How often then do models need to update our portfolios? I reckon as often as we can – if we feel our looks have improved, or if there is a particular image we would like to portray.

Sandra Omo stays up all night for Sisqo

I have often asked myself whether there is a limit to how far a model would go for a job. And what is that limit? I have seen models, including me, travel far and wide and give up their jobs and relationships for their career. It is amazing how we often think that we have a limit, but when we look back at the sacrifices we have made, we begin to ask ourselves what that limit really is.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
