» Nicholas Parsons interview

Nicholas Parsons is the legendary chairman of Radio 4’s iconic panel game Just A Minute but Andrew Kay manages to catch a few minutes with him, without repetition, hesitation or deviation, as he prepares for his appearance in Alan Bennett’s A Visit From Miss Prothero

I want to talk to you about your forthcoming performance in the play. Are you looking forward to it?
Yes, I haven’t started rehearsing it and I have other things before it you know, but I’m looking forward to that. Once I get caught up in it, I will thoroughly enjoy it because I am a person who gives my all to every job I get.

Is this your first return to acting for some time?
No, I’ve been in Miss Marple on television just recently. I was trained and as actor and although I’ve always done lots of different things, I always call myself an actor. Read the rest of this article »

It’s the East End of ’50s London. The dance hall is buzzing with jive, sharp suits and flowing frocks. Sophocles’ Greek masterpiece is reimagined by Gary Sefton in the violent world of East End gangsters. » Feature: Singin’ In The Rain

Chichester Festival Theatre turn on and put on the taps for the classic MGM musical Singin’ In The Rain

Marilyn with her skirts swirling, Liza tipping a bowler and Doris whip-cracking away – they’re all iconic images of Hollywood, but none is better known perhaps than that of Gene Kelly, suit collar turned up, singing, and dancing, in the rain.

Much loved and much mimicked and parodied, the MGM?musical Singin’ In The Rain is one of the best loved of all time.

What makes it so? Well, above and beyond the great original performances it has a great plot and a brilliant score with some of the genres most memorable songs, ‘Make ’Em Laugh’, ‘All I Do Is Dream Of You’, ‘You Are My Lucky Star’, ‘Moses Supposes’, ‘Good Morning’…

It has romance, intrigue and comedy, lots of comedy, from the hysterically funny Lina Lamont, the shrill voiced silent movie goddess who is the starting point of the entire drama.

Miss Lamont is a star on the silent screen, but with the advent of the talkies it is discovered that her voice is far from that expected of a romantic lead. Katherine Kingsley plays the role and is no newcomer to Chichester having appeared in Hobson’s Choice in 2007 and since then she has appeared in many successful shows in London including Piaf, in which she was nominated for an Olivier Award.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
