Stavros Flatley work out in Bognor, Stephen Gately’s book gets fan launch and Robin Cousins Greases up
Bognor’s got talent!
Britain’s Got Talent finalists Stavros Flatley raised a cheer when they tackled the Flex on the Beach Fitness Trail at its launch party last week. The father and son were first to try out the state-of-the-art equipment on Bognor Regis promenade after Chairman of the Council Don Ayling declared the trail officially open.
Demetri, the dad in Stavros Flatley, said: “I was surprised at how good the pieces of equipment are. All the people walking along are really enjoying having a go. I think it’s a really good idea and we’ve had a great time.
“I really like Bognor Regis. You can’t help but smile when you’re here, it’s a great place to be and everyone’s been so lovely to us.”
Demetrios Demetriou, 40, and 13-year-old son Lagi, from Enfield, were the surprise hit during the 2009 series of Britain’s Got Talent with their comic fusion of Greek and Irish dancing.
Flex on the Beach is a 5km trail made up of exercise stations along a series of circuits and the seafront, running from West Park in the west and along the seafront to Gloucester Road (check out www.arun.gov.uk/flex for more info)
Ice angel
I had a lovely chat over coffee and biscuits with Dancing On Ice head judge Robin Cousins last week. Robin, who lives in Brighton, has been literally non-stop working since being on our screens either on the hit ITV show or commentating on the Olympics earlier this year. But there is no rest for our very own ex-Olympian, as he is now commuting up to London every day for a stint in the West End musical Grease. Robin plays The Teen Angel and stars alongside former Hear’Say singer, Noel Sullivan, who plays Danny Zucko.
We are all going up to see Robin in the show next week so will report back!
The story continues for Boyzone’s Stephen
Lisa from my office went to London last weekend to attend her late friend Stephen Gately’s book launch for his children’s fantasy novel, The Tree Of Seasons. The event was organised by Stephen’s husband Andrew Cowles especially for Stephen’s loyal fans – who were there in droves. The launch gave them the opportunity to buy the book a few days before its release, and also get to speak with Andrew and have their book signed by the book’s illustrator, Keith Wilson.
Over 150 Boyzone fans attended the event at London’s Phoenix Artist club and more than 150 books were sold, with a further £400 raised for the Caudwell Children’s charity.
Stephen began writing the novel three years ago and was one chapter away from completing it before his untimely death in October 2009. Thankfully he had left enough notes for Andrew to get the book completed and published.
Described as ‘a beautiful story of good and evil and a vividly imagined portrait of a world beyond our own’, the book was inspired by Stephen’s love of Disney and children’s fantasy and is aimed at 8-13 year olds. Heat magazine have already given it five stars so here’s hoping Stephen is set to get a posthumous number one in this week’s book chart.
