Katie Price gets a roasting from OAP and Norman Cook unveils kooky new concept album

Katie’s carpark row

It has been quite a dramatic week for Katie Price – now Mrs Reid. Not only has she had to contend with a barrage of ‘Marriage in crisis’ tabloid headlines but also being verbally abused by an OAP in Brighton.

Over the Easter weekend, what set out to be a happy family shopping trip in Brighton’s Goldstone Retail Park turned out to be a complete nightmare for the glamour girl.

Katie, who had son Harvey in the car, parked in a disabled parking bay. Harvey, who was with his brother Junior, four, and sister Princess, two, is severely disabled. He is partially blind with a disorder called septo-optic dysplasia, and suffers other illnesses caused by a hormone deficiency.

Katie parking in this bay seemed to upset a male shopper who apparently branded her a ‘disgrace’. According to onlookers Katie was clearly upset and visibly shaken by the man’s abusive comments.

After the incident Katie said, “My son Harvey heard me being abused by this man who thought that just because of who I am I was trying to be some kind of prima-donna by parking where I did.

“I have spoken with my lawyers about the incident. If anyone does anything that upsets my children, I don’t care who it is but I am always going to protect them.”

Harvey, Katie’s son from her previous relationship with footballer Dwight Yorke, was born with a rare condition affecting the optic nerve, which means he is partially blind. He also requires around-the-clock care.

Katie’s spokesman said last week, “When she is wrongly criticised, nastily and verbally attacked and abused in front of her children, who were plainly distressed by this man’s behaviour, then she naturally reacted in a way any mother would.”

Norman’s new project

Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook, is to make an album about the former Filipino first lady Imelda Marcos. No, this is not a wind up! Norm is joining forces with old mate and collaborator David Byrne, former frontman of the completely brilliant Talking Heads (one of my all time favourite bands).

Incidentally, I was round at Norman’s a couple of years ago and Zoe told me that David stayed at their Hove mansion for a while and she still had to pinch herself every morning that David Byrne was making a cup of tea in her kitchen!

Anyway, the album will feature 22 tracks with lots of guest appearances including singer-songwriter Tori Amos – set your Amazon alarms kids.

Nick does his bit for Haiti

Make sure you pick up a copy of current charity single ‘I Put A Spell OnYou’. Not only do all the profits of the Shane MacGowan-organised record go to help charities in Haiti, but it features Hove’s own Nick Cave (alongside Johnny Depp on slide guitar, Chrissie Hynde, The Clash’s Mick Jones, The Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock, and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie). The Screamin’ Jay Hawkins track is an old favourite with Nick, who used to perform the song with his former band, The Birthday Party. Check out the online video too!

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
