Banksy’s eccentric graffiti show is unveiled and The Juice Apprentice is on air

Iconoclastic graffiti artist Banksy unveiled his largest project to date when the doors of Bristol’s City Museum were flung open to reveal he has ‘remixed’ the entire building.

Renowned for infiltrating museum collections without their knowledge, Banksy has this time sought co-operation from the museum’s director and used it to install marble statues of drunken ladettes and paedophile bishops amidst the roman columns of the three storey Edwardian building.

A burnt out ice cream van replaces the usual information counter as a policeman in riot gear rocks perpetually on a fairground horse.
The sound of live chicken nuggets singing fills the vast rear hall and a live leopard skin coat sleeps on a branch.

Amongst the museum‘s collection of old masters an oil painting of parliament is now entirely populated by monkeys. Elsewhere the museum’s permanent collection has been infiltrated in more subtle ways – the vitrine holding locally produced pottery now shares space with a used hash pipe (also locally produced) and the life-size Bristol biplane suspended from the ceiling provides refuge for a Guantanamo Bay escapee.

Organised under tight security, the event has been kept secret from the museum‘s entire staff and trustees, allowing the artist to work inside the venue to create what promises to be the most exciting graffiti show held in a regional south west museum this summer.
Runs until 31 August, open 10am until 5pm everyday, admission is free. www.banksy.co.uk

Local radio station “does” The Apprentice!
Following the huge success of series five of The Apprentice, Brighton’s Juice 107.2, the city’s only independent commercial radio station is running a new strand called ‘The Juice Apprentice’! Throughout June and July Juice 107.2 managing director, Ryan Heal, takes on the role of Sir Ryan Sugar and sets presenters Guy, Andrea, Jonesy and Sarah weekly tasks to compete in, all containing a strong local focus.

Each week, one of the presenters will be ’fired’ leaving one candidate standing and opening the door to a whole host of prizes and on-air bragging rights! The feature is in partnership with Brighton and Hove City Council’s apprenticeship scheme helping to realise potential of the local workforce and produce stars of the future for Brighton and Hove’s business sector.

Tune in every Thursday at 2pm for the latest instalment from the boardroom! For more information visit www.juicebrighton.com/apprentice
