Starman’s Andrew Stone styled by Trevor Sorbie, Zoe Ball is caught nap-pying, plus Ladies Day
Pineapple Dance Salon
Five of the star stylists from the Trevor Sorbie Brighton salon last week had a brush (excuse the pun) with everyone’s favourite TV reality show, Pineapple Dance Studios. It all started when top stylist Spencer Hicks was doing the hair of one his regular clients who loved her ‘do’ so much that she invited Spencer and the team to style her client.
The client in question was none other than Andrew Stone, actor, dancer, and lead singer of the band Starman. Five of the Sorbie team members styled the band’s hair for a high profile gig. And they have another appointment with fame when the Starman team come to the Brighton salon in September. Fans of Pineapple Dance Studios should watch this space!
On The Ball
Hove broadcaster Zoe Ball made me laugh out loud this week while filling in for stalwart pop master Ken Bruce on Radio 2. Zoe was asking listeners what they got up to at the weekend and recounted a very funny personal story.
She decided to go on a hike across the Sussex downs with friends, taking along six-month-old baby daughter Nelly. We have all done it – not dressed for the good old British weather. You know the sort of day, starts overcast and then quickly becomes completely roasting. Zoe had forgotten to pack a hat for the tot but, being a good girl scout, she managed to fashion a hat out of a clean nappy. “Think Dutch national costume!” she joked.
Zoe didn’t mention hubby Norman, as he has been very busy preparing for heading back on the DJ trail. Now off the booze for good, Norm revealed in an interview with the News Of The World that he wasn’t sure he could make any more Fatboy songs.
He said, “I thought I needed a drink to be a good DJ. I thought it would be unprofessional to go on stage sober, because I might be shy – and my job once I put on Fatboy Slim’s Hawaiian shirt is not to be shy.
“I thought I’d let the audience down if I wasn’t having as much of a party as they were. But the buzz is great now. For a start, I remember it all afterwards! I’ve played some fantastic shows over the years that I really don’t remember.
“I now get that fabled natural high – the trigger when I go on stage reminds me of being high. Maybe that natural high was always there, and I only thought I needed vodka to trigger it.”
Fatboy Slim plays the SW4 Weekender on August 28-29 alongside Armin Van Buuren, Salt-N-Pepa and Erick Morillo – check out www.southwestfour.com for details.
Hat’s Entertainment
Ladies Day at Brighton Races is now firmly in the city’s social diary and this year did not disappoint! Headwear of all shapes and sizes was on show, including a selection shown in our pictures – one even made out of wood shavings! The proceedings were captured live on Channel 4 Racing – hosted by main presenter Derek Thompson, who was a bit like a giddy racecourse gadding about the paddock, marquee and finishing line. Best Dressed Lady, Gent and Best Hat were judged this year by Ship Street jeweller Jeremy Hoye and Lanes-based fashion store Ted Baker.
