» Comedy highlight: Jimmy Carr – Rapier Wit

Jimmy-Carr
He’s a clever lad, is Jimmy Carr. Carving a place for himself as a master gagsmith, Mr Carr has gigged and written non-stop – even when he was on the telly all the time! Actually, he still is, with a new series of 8 Out Of 10 Cats being chaired by the moon-faced comic, and various Top Ten countdowns being repeated over on E4 with Carr hosting the tension-building marathons.

This is 2009’s sell out show, that appeared fast on the heels of the previous year’s sell out show which followed hot on the year before’s… you get the idea. Ever since he was nominated for the Perrier award in 2002, Carr has been collecting accolades for his sharp wit and cutting punchlines. From Best Stand-Up 2003 from Time Out, to awards at the Laftas in both 2004 and 2005, his determination to stay fresh and introduce a completely new show each year has stood him in good stead.

This show is not one for the easily offended though, as recent controversy over one of his darker jokes about army amputees demonstrated.

In fact, this is a strictly over 16s affair, as the tickets state clearly. There’s no soft soap humour here, and if you thought Jimmy Carr’s jokes were close to the bone on the telly, buckle up for the live show as this is without censor.

Jimmy Carr: Rapier Wit, Concert Hall, Brighton Dome, Friday 22 January, 8pm, £22.50
