Dani is tired of being told what to eat by the media…
Is anyone else tired of reading, seeing, and hearing information about what we are supposed to be doing? Every time I log onto the internet (my home page is MSN) I am confronted with an article on what I should be eating, what 10 things I should never say to a man, how I should sleep, that I should be drinking a bath tub’s worth of water a day, moisturising every five minutes, not wearing heels, wearing them to attract the right person and making a five year plan.
I can’t help but feel a bit confused by all the information we are bombarded with everyday. Especially where diet is concerned. Every day we are told to eat more of one thing and less of another, we are prompted to eat a breakfast everyday, then told that we should only be eating two eggs a week. Since when were eggs bad for you? Fish is great but not too much, and feed your kids Omega 3 if you want them to be geniuses. Whatever happened to the good old ‘everything in moderation’ way of thinking? You can’t even enjoy a good old roast anymore, as the gravy would be too full of calories.
“Diets are a point of annoyance for me as people always presume I am on one”
At one time we all felt relatively healthy eating a diet that wasn’t dictated to us by the media, but now we have to eat a trolley‘s worth of veg a day, steamed of course. It seems that if we wish to be healthy nowadays we could never dream of eating anything that actually tastes great – lets face it, sometimes a plate of veg just doesn’t fill the hole a pizza could – and we should be drinking pomegranate juice (or has that craze passed?)
Fortunately for me I quite like eating some things that are thought of as being healthy, but that doesn’t mean that I eat nothing but spinach. Sometimes you just need a kebab! The thing that bothers me most about the whole diet topic is the secret army of preachers that wander our streets. There is nothing worse than being told something that firstly you have no interest in and that secondly may not actually be true, the worst part of it is that you are normally told this stuff by someone who claims to be the font of all health knowledge, who claims to feel great all the time and yet is spending their days eating nothing but turnips in a bid to loose some weight.
Diets are a point of annoyance for me as people always presume I am on one. I can honestly say that I have never dieted. I like to eat but the food I choose to put on my plate is not influenced by any ‘new research’ – it is simply what I like. Frankly in my head there is no harm in having a bag of crisps, there is no harm in having a drink or a burger as long as it is in moderation and you also eat other stuff. Someone once told me that to be healthy inside, you should eat a rainbow; this has so far been the best piece of advice I have heard where diet is concerned. But unfortunately Smarties don’t count.
You wait for ages and then…
Brighton and Hove Bus Company have had a wonderful idea. Imagine you are at the pub, it’s dark outside and you will be travelling home on your own. You’d rather not go and stand at a lonely bus stop not knowing when your bus is due. Imagine if you could find out when your bus was due whilst sitting in the pub? Well now you can. Using the special numbers on all the bus stops you simply text the corresponding number to 84268 and you will be sent the list of what busses are due to arrive at that bus stop and how long they will be. You’ll never have to wait anymore! Excellent!
