Terrified at the thought of jetting off for your holiday? Hypnotherapy & NLP can help

Fear of flying is a phobia that affects one in five of us. While the majority of us can’t wait to jet off to more exotic climes, a lot of people will turn white at the thought of just entering the airport. “A phobia is often thought of as an irrational fear, often triggered by a past event, and this needs to be addressed in order for the person to move beyond it,” says NLP practitioner Jonathan Conway.

“A combination of hypnotherapy and NLP [Neuro Linguistic Programming] based techniques would be useful in helping a person prepare for a successful flight and a good holiday experience.”

A phobia is a learned response, meaning it can be overcome. Don’t just accept it as being ‘how you are.’ Many fearful flyers will actually fly – perhaps with the aid or alcohol or medication; a fear isn’t going to stop many of us escaping for a week of beach relaxation or city sightseeing. For others, an over-powering fear makes air travel impossible. They will feel anxious when they’re on a plane and may suffer from anxiety, hyperventilation or panic attacks.

“An NLP phobia cure, which is often done in conjunction with hypnosis, takes the person back to the original cause of the phobia,” continues Jonathan. “This helps them to make a change in the way that information is coded at an unconscious level.”

It can also be helpful to learn self hypnosis or practise breathing methods and relaxation. Try not to miss out on seeing the world because of fear. Phobias can be dissolved and, if it’s unknown tropical bugs or snakes that put you off taking the holiday of a lifetime, then NLP and hypnosis can tackle that too.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
