» Gay team wins gold

Brighton athletes are celebrating bringing home a stash of gold medals. Brighton Lesbian and Gay Sports Society bagged enough trophies at the Gay Eurogames 2008 to make an Olympic team proud. Sally Cushing took top prize for golf, her second gold at a Eurogames event.

Kate Whitmill from Out to Swim South won four golds and a silver. Teammate Phil Griffiths won two silver medals and Tony Mann brought home a silver for petanque.

Martin Chalons-Brown, BLAGSS co-ordinator for Eurogames, said: “Walking as part of Team UK into the opening ceremony arena, packed with over 6,000 LGBT folks and their supporters, was a real highlight for us all.“

Sally’s victorious return was marked with further good news when she scooped the women’s championship at the second annual BLAGSS Pride Golf Tournament at Pyecombe and Waterhall Golf courses. The men’s championship was won by Ken Coales.

Presenting the awards, BLAGSS golf coordinator Helen Woodcock-Downey said: “With 48 golfers taking part, our tournament is now as large as the Eurogames event and is fast becoming a highlight of the gay sporting calendar.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
