» Get Set For Pride Week

Pride and this year’s parallel event the Gay Brighton Dance Weekend are nearly upon us. Start planning your party diary now…

Wild Fruit may controversially not be a part of Pride’s Preston Park event this year, but the vibe is overwhelmingly positive as Brighton gears up for its annual celebration of our famously colourful and diverse LGBT scene. One reason for this is that we can now look forward to two parallel events, with the famous club brand putting together the Gay Brighton Dance Weekend – a long weekend of parties to celebrate Pride and raise money for the voluntary sector (see listings below).

But Pride, which this year has a theme of ‘Pride and (No) Prejudice’, ain’t just about partying. On the non-club calendar, look out for concerts by the splendidly named Brighton & Hove (Actually) Gay Men’s Chorus, whose Born Free event will be a tribute to some of the great Oscar-winning songs from movie history, including from Titanic, Gone With The Wind and even Henry V. Their show will be compered by Joanna Van Gyseghem, who recently played Camilla Parker Bowles in Channel Four’s The Queen.

Elsewhere, Artfor Pride at Brighton Media Centre Gallery will be bringing 11 diverse local artists together for an exhibition spanning photography, sculpture, painting and digital art. Each artist has pledged to donate 50 per cent of any sales or commissions to Pride. The show runs from Saturday 31 July to 1 August, 11am-5pm daily, and you can visit www.artfor.co.uk for more information.

Make sure you pick up your free copy of Latest 7 next Tuesday for your full guide to Pride week.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
