Q: I haven’t been to the hairdressers for quite a while, and generally feel nervous in hair salons. My hair is long and limp, and I always seem to leave the salon looking the same. I want to change my hair but have no idea what would suit me, what should I do?
A: Some hair salons can be quite intimidating so feeling nervous is quite normal. The best thing to do is arrange a consultation with a hairdresser. A good hairdresser will be able to look at your hair texture, thickness and also your face shape and advise on some hairstyles and hair colour that will not only suit you but work with your lifestyle and budget. A good idea is to visit the hair salon you’ve chosen with some pictures from magazines, although most looks you see in magazines will have extensions, colour, and hours of work for that particular look, it can be a real help for the hairdresser and most looks can be adapted to suit you. A great look at the moment is a grown out bob, cut to the collarbone with some layers to give your hair some body.

Q: My hair is dyed blonde and never seems to have any shine. I like the colour but really want to make it look more glossy.
A: Blonde hair doesn’t tend to reflect light as well as dark hair so it needs all the help it can get. If you’re happy with the colour then one option would be an Aveda clear glossing treatment: it adds great shine and condition to your hair without affecting the tone of your hair colour. To help further with shine, Aveda’s Light Elements Smoothing Fluid will help to even the surface area of the hair and make it look more glossy. As with all serums, keep the product away from your roots to avoid build-up on the scalp.
