» Health & Beauty: Loved-up look for Valentine’s

Zara Baker glams up and adds some romance to winter

It’s nearly Valentine’s Day. Ladies, if you’re planning on shedding the cardi and woolly hat combo and glamming it up, ease in gently. The gorgeous dresses, sky-heel heels and perfect make-up from Christmas and New Year festivities seem a lifetime ago. The next big calendar event is of course, St Valentine’s. If you’re planning to woo, be wooed or celebrate with singleton friends, mix winter sale bargains with hot new trends for spring and summer. The shops have (mostly all) released their new looks for the hopefully warmer season ahead. But it is still only February, so mixing seasonal trends is required.

The classic little black dress (1) is the essential staple – particularly if you don’t want to attract too much attention in a flashy red Valentine’s number. Team the black dress with a red bag and/or shoes for eye-catching style in a subtler way. Don’t forget to make your nails match with a vampy red polish (2). Step out in a pair of shoes (3&4) that won’t make battling with rain or snow a problem, but still have height for that extra sex appeal. Experiment with spring make-up trends (5&6) – corals and shimmering pinks to add warmth to the complexion. Finish off with a perfectly tamed mane against the winter elements with an intensive treatment and balm for tame, shiny locks. (7&8) The perfect Valentine’s look – whatever the weather and remember to keep it cosy.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk

AOH Special: It’s Festival time in Brighton & Hove, which means the Artists Open Houses have opened their doors for another year! Maps of all the trails can be picked up across the city. We love nothing better than browsing and buying arts and crafts, and there is so much going on throughout May that we’ve made it easier by bringing the Artists Open Houses to you! We have 11 special programmes, featuring artists in their own houses. So here’s your chance to go ‘through the keyhole’ so to speak as we visit the artists in their own environment.
