Dress up and drop in to Brighton Ballroom where the joint is really jumping

Photography: Sam Eddison (www.sameddison.com), starring Laura Nixon as Marilyn Monroe

One time mausoleum, The Hanbury Club is now back in business as Brighton Ballroom and it’s rapidly becoming the place to be once again. There is little doubting the cool and elegant style of the venue, and the new management are maximising on that with a programme of events to suit all tastes and pockets.

Brighton Rouge’d launched Pride 2010 with an eclectic mix of cabaret that had the joint swinging along to Jason Abrahams, ‘Marilyn’, and a host of other cool acts. Right now, rehearsals are under way for a Glee special on 27 August. Auditions were held earlier this month and the chosen local talent is being drilled for an evening of exuberant choral fun, much in the style of the hit TV show.

The bar offers a great range of drinks including cocktails, and the kitchen will re-open on 1 September offering a full menu with a three-course dinner at £26 a head. Brighton Ballroom is retro, stylish and chic; the atmosphere is fun, the mood slightly saucy and, let’s face it, that’s what we Brightonians want from a night on the town.

Brighton Ballroom, 83 St George’s Road, Brighton, BN2 1EF, 0207 283 1940, for restaurant reservations please email victoria@proud.co.uk, open Wednesday–Sunday 7.30pm–2am, www.brightonballroom.com

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk

We love nothing better than browsing and buying arts and crafts, and there is so much going on throughout May that we’ve made it easier by bringing the Artists Open Houses to you! We have 11 special programmes, featuring artists in their own houses. So here’s your chance to go ‘through the keyhole’ so to speak as we visit the artists in their own environment.
