The Crookes
Not to be confused with the Coventry band called The Crooks, nor indeed The Kooks, Sheffield’s The Crookes have been gathering much praise for their old-time swing and woozy Barbershop harmonies, packaged up as indie disco. Named after an area of Sheffield called Crookes, Steve Lamacq went so far as to name them his favourite band of the year. George Waite has an exceptional voice, while the band as a whole display a musical confidence and maturity beyond their short two years together.

Ellie Goulding
Having topped the BBC Sound of 2010 poll and winning the Critics Choice Award at the 2010 Brits, Goulding’s folk-inspired songs have been put through the production mincer to create something highly polished and accessible.
She’s also a fine writer, and has contributed to albums by Diana Vickers and Gabriella Cilmi. A genuine talent.
Friday 16 April, Digital
Oddfellows Casino
Dave Bramwell’s literate musical project (he’s the man behind the long-running conversational/debating Catalyst Club and founder of the Cheeky Guide series of books) has been around for a number of years, with two albums released on Pickled Egg Records. His band is back in action, and expect a new album to coincide with this gig, which also features Clearlakes’ Jason Pegg in support.
Saturday 17 April, Unitarian Church
