Baby Mama (12A)

Director: Michael McCullers

Baby Mama
A successful, single businesswoman who dreams of having a baby discovers she is infertile and hires a working class woman to be her unlikely surrogate. This stateside hit stars Saturday Night Live regulars Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in a comedy double act full of bite and spite.
7 Selects
Fey and Poehler have been getting a fair bit of press recently for their quirkyfemale credentials but this film does away with the gender debate and proves a funny and cute if notperfect comedic romp.

Donkey Punch (18)

Dir: Oliver Blackburn
Clubbing gets bloody in this sweaty little mess of a film. After meeting at a nightclub in a Mediterranean resort, seven young adults decide to continue partying aboard a luxury yacht in the middle of the ocean.

But when one of them dies in a freak accident it leads to a ruthless fight for survival. A hectic mix of bikinis and blood, booze and bludgeoning, sex and slashing, this is murder at sea with a hot but dumb cast and a pulsating soundtrack. The film like the title is a dirty little act.

ROH: The Sleeping Beauty (TBC)

Dir: Ross MacGibbonThe Sleeping Beauty
With music by Tchaikovsky and choreography by Marius Petipa this live rendition of Sleeping Beauty is astonishing. Recorded by the BBC in December 2006 to coincide with the company’s 75th anniversary, Monica Mason and Christopher Newton have created a new production based on the Sergeyev/De Valois/Messel production from 1946.

In this classic ballet, Princess Aurora is cursed by the evil fairy Carabosse and is fated to die after pricking her finger on a spindle. Wonderful if flighty stuff.

Showing at Duke of York’s.
