» Preview: Cowboys & Aliens (12A)

Director: Jon Favreau

After the pressure and expectation of Iron Man and Iron Man 2, delivered with plenty of bang, Jon Favreau has returned to the director’s chair with this latest big budget effects fest, starring action favourites Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, as well as Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell.

Putting a twist on two popular genres and ending up with an action adventure sci fi thriller, Craig plays a stranger in a strange land when he wanders into the town of Absolution in New Mexico in 1875.

Ruled with an iron first by the Colonel (Ford), the town is kept on a short leash and the oppression feels like familiar territory.

Thing is, they don’t know terror properly until screaming aliens start coming down and abducting the townsfolk one by one. Bit of a turnaround – a foe that doesn’t wait for the piano player to stop and the barman to hide.

A rebellion against the outer space marauders is quickly assembled, with Daniel Craig and another mystery traveller (Wilde) leading the way to a colossal showdown.

Released 17 August

Showing at Odeon and Cineworld

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
