» Review: Alexander Karpeyev
Every now and again a new performer will send a reviewer scurrying off in search of their thesaurus in order to max out on the superlatives that justifiably should be tagged onto their concert critique. Space does not allow such luxury here, however. Suffice to say that Alexander Karpeyev’s lunchtime piano recital of Beethoven’s E Flat Sonata, Schumann’s Humoreske and Liszt’s terrifyingly explosive Rapsodie Espagnole was arguably the most spell-binding, nerve-jangling, tear-rending performance I have ever seen at these events.
Whoever is responsible for the quality of the musical entertainment and getting lunchtime Festival bums on seats, take a big bow.
