» Review: Jim Bob + Tim Ten Yen
London mentalist Tim Ten Yen is nothing if not unique. His robotic cat warmed the singer’s seat and joined in the fusion of Davids Byrne and Devant with cheerful, silly, Lightning Seeds pop cheese. A crowd mostly here for headliner Jim Bob was rightly charmed. More serious (but definitely still not serious), the erstwhile frontman of baggy legends Carter USM’s solo work is formidable. Ably assisted by local hero Chris T-T on keyboard, Jim’s infectious back catalogue proved ideal
for the intimate Freebutt
setting. Trademark witty lyrics, quality acoustic songwriting and effortless stage charisma, combined with a few Carter favourites, left no punter unsatisfied.
