Brighton’s favourite alt-country band returned to a sold out Hanbury in support of their 8th studio album. New song ‘Boyfriend’ had a feel of Paul Simon’s ‘Late In The Evening’, while the riff-heavy ‘43’ saw guitarist Dan Eccles rocking out. Willy Vlautin doesn’t so much write songs as tell musical stories. In tales of returning home to live with Mum, wayward friends and life on the road, the eloquent lyrics sat perfectly atop multi-layered textures. Dan’s haunting licks floated beautifully over Willy’s chords. The five song encore, including a stomping ‘Broken Records’, ended a triumphant gig.
