» Review: The Umbrella Show
This Edinburgh preview provided an hour of top quality stand-up from a trio of up-and-coming Brighton comedians. Paul McCaffrey provided an energetic kick-off to the night with a torrent of observational gags flowing into more endearingly selfdepreciating personnel tales.
Sam Stone adopted a darker tone contrasting her own neurotic quirks against more esoteric subjects like disappearing bees and concluding with an a cappella song drawing it all together. Finally dry, cuddly, hangdog, Dan Allen closed with a gagfuelled story of his life. Very funny, and packed with human interest, he ended with some subtle callbacks giving a satisfying feeling of resolution. Which was then swiftly punctured for comic effect. Ace.
