» Reviews: Brighton Festival Fringe – Cabaret Whore
Sarah-Louise Young is as impressive this year as she was last, when she scooped up awards galore and captivated so many new fans. This character comedienne chanteuse is talented on numerous fronts, and yet without vanity as she skips through her flawed characters, poking vicious fun at them and adopting whole new stances and physicalities as she picks up a new deluded and semi-tortured soul. She really is very funny. Opening with Liza-alike Berne Sinclair she belts out the highly entertaining and knowing ‘Diva Of A Certain Age’. Her second character is Kasha, an Eastern European performance artiste who successfully sends up Bjork and her ilk, followed by Sister Carol Anne and her Ministry of Cabaret, and closing with last year’s favourite ‘The Frumpy Pigeon’ – the French psychotic chanteuse dressed in black. All different, all highly entertaining, and all so much fun throughout.
