Clare Brown of wellbeing centre Revitalise on the classes and treatments that will leave you looking and feeling great. This week: colonic hydrotherapy

It never ceases to amaze me (given the natural fear factor) that during the seven years Revitalise has been operating, colonic hydrotherapy has been, without doubt, the most consistently popular therapy. In part, this is testimony to the team of committed and reliable therapists who have a great deal of knowledge in nutrition and health, as well as professional experience of the procedure and a caring approach. Therapists have successfully helped clients with health complaints including lack of energy and motivation, bloating, food intolerances, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and weight management. But why should we consider colonic hydrotherapy, how does it benefit us, and are you really sure I don’t need to be scared?!

The colon is situated in the abdomen and is approximately five feet long and 2.5 inches wide. It carries out vital functions including the completion of the digestive process, eliminating food and other body wastes, as well as protecting us from infection and disease. In a normally functioning colon, all this is achieved with the help of billions of friendly bacteria. However, the delicate balance of this internal ecosystem can easily be disturbed by factors including stress, pollution, food and drink choices, smoking and exposure to toxic substances. It is the result of this imbalance that can affect your health.

Colonic hydrotherapy clears old faecal matter, gas, mucus and toxic substances in the colon. This leads to better digestion so you get less bloating and food intolerances, more energy, clearer skin, increased mental clarity and fewer headaches. It also helps many circulatory, immune and weight problems, and can improve many joint conditions.

While the idea of having a colonic can be a very daunting experience, it’s really not as bad as one may anticipate. The modesty of the client is preserved to the utmost during the process. An appointment at Revitalise is 75 minutes, but much of this time is taken with a consultation beforehand, and nutritional and lifestyle advice afterwards. The actual treatment is about 40 minutes. During this time, filtered water at a carefully regulated temperature is gently introduced into the colon, using only the pressure of gravity. With specific massage techniques, the water begins to soften any deposits and cleanse the colon of faecal matter, which is instantly piped away.
The number of treatments required depends on a range of factors including age, dietary intake, lifestyle factors, and previous colonic treatments. On average, a course of up to three or four treatments a week apart may be necessary. After this, one colonic every six months is ideal.

All equipment used during colonic hydrotherapy treatments at Revitalise are disposable. The water pressure used is very low so there is no danger of any bowel damage. Unlike laxatives, colon hydrotherapy is not habit forming and actually improves and restores muscle tone.
Revitalise are offering all Latest 7 readers a £10 discount on colonic hydrotherapy. To maintain good health, Revitalise stocks detox products, food supplements, herbal tinctures, super foods, and dairy and gluten free foods.

Did you know?

• The healthy transit time of food through our bodies is less than 24 hours. On average in the UK it is now 60 hours for men and 70 hours for women. The UK is the most constipated nation in the world.
• The UK also has the highest incidence of bowel cancer in the world with over 20,000 new cases diagnosed every year.
• One in three people consulting a GP have a bowel problem.
• Toxins are re-absorbed through the wall of the colon directly into the bloodstream.
• Our systems are being heavily polluted by this continually increasing accumulation of waste matter from food and normal body processes.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
