» Sussex Beacon Half Marathon 2008

This year the Sussex Beacon broke all records for runners, funds raised and even the weather was on their side

049_LS361_LG_7.jpgThe weather was sunny and the sky and sea were a deep blue as runners set off on the 2008 Sussex Beacon Half Marathon. Crowds cheered the athletes on as it was announced that the fundraising target of £120,000 will be broken as the race became over-subscribed.

“Its incredible,” says Julie Hales race director. “This is the first time in the races history it’s sold out! What is even more exciting is the amount of funds raised for the Beacon by the race – we are going to smash our target of £120,000. It’s a fantastic achievement in the Beacon’s 15th Anniversary year.”

A record 4,900 people ran the 10km distance with Sussex runners occupying the top three places with Dave Catre (Phoenix) winning from Daniel Anderson (Hastings) and Tracy Harris (Brighton and Hove). The winner of the New Youth Race was Junior Wells.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
