» The Hive at The Brunswick, Hove

The Hive is a brand new exciting theatre venue for this year’s Fringe, with a thrilling line-up of talent

When actors Victoria Gould and Dermot Keaney were asked by The Brunswick Pub in Hove if they thought it would be possible to create a venue in the garden of the pub they immediately jumped at the opportunity – and thought later.
Dermot, who was already running acting classes at the venue, had seen the outdoor space filled with a marquee for a function so had an idea of the scale of the projects. Now, as May and the Fringe fast approaches The Hive is all set for an exciting first season of theatre. And theatre is what it is all about, well almost, there are some music and cabaret events too.
Victoria has acted extensively in theatre, radio, film and television, including two years as journalist Polly Becker in EastEnders, and in Saxondale with Steve Coogan and Hippie Hippie Shake with Cillian Murphy. She has also worked as artistic collaborator on the last three Complicite world touring shows: Shunkin, A Disappearing Number and The Elephant Vanishes.
Dermot has appeared in: Prime Suspect, A Touch of Frost, Residents, and as Janine’s drug-dealing pimp in EastEnders. He recently played the part of a Pict Hunter in Neil Marshall’s new film Centurion where he worked with Michael Fassbender (Hunger) and Dominic West (The Wire). ‘‘I had my glimpse of Hollywood playing the hammerhead first mate to Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.“
The bill at The Hive includes Spanish Flamenco; Vaudeville; one-man shows and acrobats. Most excitingly perhaps will be Radio City Live ‘Plan Bee’. This will see Victoria and Dermot working with the cream of the South East’s writing talent to stage a series of brand new live radio dramas.
Tickets for all of The Hive’s events will be available from the Festival box office at the Dome complex, but there will also be a number of seats held back each day for sale at performance time.
This brand new 100-seat venue promises to be an exciting addition to the Fringe and a great opportunity to see so new and exciting theatre and brilliant international acts.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
