» Wizard of Oz review

We love the film of The Wizard of Oz and we know all the characters and songs. This was practically identical to the film version but with more to laugh at.
All the songs were in it, and all the best dialogue from the film. Aime Atkinson made a very good Dorothy and the real dog playing Toto was soooo cute. He even came on at the end for a curtain call with all the actors.
This wasn’t like a normal pantomime because there were no panto characters or audience participation. But we all hissed when the Wicked Witch of the West came  on.
The singing and dancing Munchkins were all great, especially the little ones who were adorable!
The audience all loved it. We saw people of all ages and they were all enjoying the show. Even some small children in front of us who we thought might fidget sat completely still all the way through.
All the actors were brilliant. The Tin Man was funny and the Scarecrow was lovable. The extremely camp Lion kept trying to steal the show.
The set was amazing especially the way it changed from the drab farm in Kansas to colourful Munchkinland and the Emerald City. The best thing about the set was the way the house was swept away in the tornado. It was scary and unbelievably realistic the way it seemed to fly.
We think everyone would love this magical Chistmas show.
Theatre Royal, Brighton, 16 December (runs until January 4)
