Gold Run Glyndebourne in association with Carousel and Pallant House

What joy to see a project of this nature really work on almost every level. The piece has great music, a great story and is brilliantly realized – and all this with the Carousel singers, a group of exuberant learning disabled youngsters who have at all stages been a part of the creative process. It would be hard to imagine this work being made or performed by anyone else, they have such strong ownership of the work. So much so that for just a moment I pondered how great it would be to hear the excellent songs performed by a choir of great singers – but it was for only a moment. Immediately I realized that it simply did not need that. Gold Run touched the audience in a way that dispelled the feeling of ‘Aw, didn’t they do well’ and replaced it with ‘My god, this is quite brilliant.’
