The big pictures
Brighton’s Big Screen will be bringing a 100 square ft, LED screen to the seafront from 27 July–12 August, to broadcast live coverage of the Games plus a selection of blockbuster movies including Avatar, Jaws and Toy Story.
Brighton’s Big Screen organisers Murray Media and Boho Green will be hosting a free launch party on 27 July, bringing the excitement of the Games to our very own London by the Sea, where the opening ceremony will be broadcast live on the beach. A first, not only for Brighton, but for the UK in terms of a free outdoor cinema that will offer grandstand views of the Games and movies with the atmosphere of a live crowd.
Continuous coverage of the main sporting events from the Games along with blockbuster movies will be broadcast every day on the giant outdoor screen from 10am–10pm, which will be situated on Brighton and Hove seafront, next to the West Pier, opposite the Metropole Hotel.
Brighton’s Big Screen will bring an exciting and diverse line up of films to suit all tastes. From summer lovin’ with their sing-along movie night, featuring Grease and Saturday Night Fever, to a Friday night ‘Fright Night’ featuring The Woman In Black, and a selection of feel-good tear jerker’s including Titanic and Lion King.
Audience members will have the chance to get their own 15 minutes of fame up on the big screen on Monday 30 July, when Brighton’s Big Screen will be hosting a free karaoke night from 8pm.
The audience will also be able to take advantage of the fully licensed beach bar with sheltered and outdoor seating to enjoy the best action from the Games and over 20 free movies from dawn to dusk.
Murray Media and co-creator and partner Colin Brace, of local sustainability company Boho Green are behind the bid to bring the largest free outdoor cinema on the south coast to the city, “We are extremely excited about the Brighton’s Big Screen project. We think it will be a great addition to the seafront and a great opportunity to watch the Games and classic blockbuster movies on the beach for free this summer!”
