Celebcity: Baby joy for Kate Winslet

Game Of Thrones’ Noah Taylor, baby joy for Kate Winslet, & a Crawley pub is picked for a new film

The Brighton Group

Last week saw the opening of Lawrence Alkin Gallery’s latest show – The Group: Winter Collection. The Soho based gallery hit the front pages this year with it’s Kate Moss: Roll 1 exhibition (displaying her first ever professional shots) and is certainly one to watch in 2014.

We were proud to see a whole host of Brighton-based artists taking centre stage at the show, flying the flag for the brilliance of our local talent. Australian actor Noah Taylor, who now lives in our lovely city, certainly drew a lot of attention for his surprising works. Perhaps better known as Locke from TV’s Game Of Thrones, or Mr Bucket in Tim Burton’s Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, it seems there are no end to Taylor’s talents! Alongside Noah was fellow Brighton boy Andy Doig and local talent Sarah Shaw. Doig has made his name in beautiful light installations by working alongside big name artists and producing special commissions for bands and like. Shaw also has her fair share of rock star kudos after seeing one of her brilliant art works snapped up by Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood recently. It’s great to see Brighton artists holding their own in the Big Smoke – make sure you keep an eye out for these names in 2014. For more info visit www.lawrencealkingallery.com

Christmas Battle
Brighton favourite Rizzle Kicks have thrown their snapbacks in the ring for the chance to get 2013’s Christmas Number One. In a year that sees ‘every man and his dog’ having a go for the top spot the interest is really hotting up. The X Factor has lost its vice-like grip on the coveted for the past two years and we’re all the happier for it. Of course, we’re still backing Guy Lloyd’s campaign to get Roachford’s Cuddly Toy back to Number One. Other contestants include Robbie Williams, Leona Lewis and Susan Boyle, who all know what it’s like to grab that killer position. Good luck to the Brighton contingent – it’s all to play for chaps!

CongrutuLations Kate & NED
Sussex welcomed a very A-list bundle of joy into its arms last week, with the birth of Kate Winslet and Ned Rocknroll’s first son together. Eschewing a fancy private hospital for a local NHS one, Winslet gave birth to the healthy baby on Saturday 7th December. The little boy joins Winslet’s two other children Mia, 13, and Joe, nine, from her first two marriages to Jim Threapleton and Sam Mendes. Considering the rather unusual moniker of her third husband – Ned changed his name from the less glamorous Abel Smith by deed poll in 2008 – we’re hoping this little tot might get a more exciting name than usual! The new parents met whilst Kate holidayed on the private island of Ned’s uncle – the one and only Richard Branson – and soon started a whirlwind romance which saw them wedded in secret last December. We wish parents and baby lots of love in the upcoming year, and have our fingers crossed for a star-studded celebrity christening in the vicinity very soon!

Meet the Cadavers
Crawley’s Black Dog pub is set to make its big screen debut next year after it was chosen as a filming location for the upcoming Meet The Cadavers. The film follows a family of zombies, in the style of The Addams Family and The Munsters, as a comedy horror. Discussing his movie, director Zion explained: “Zombie films seem to be really popular at the moment but we haven’t seen a movie like The Addams Family with humour similar to The Inbetweeners before. I wanted to turn the film concept on its head by making the zombies a friendly family whose image has been ruined by Hollywood giving zombies a bad name.” With a cameo from Brighton’s very own Pete Bennett – of Big Brother fame – we’re pretty intrigued to see how this one turns out; dead funny we hope!
